Kennedy High provides an atmosphere where students are encouraged to discover the intimate connections between school curricula and the world of the 21st Century. Technology is incorporated into core curricular areas, and we have the lowest student/computer ratio in the district.
Kennedy High School's 4x4 block schedule supports and enhances student achievement, while allowing students to enroll in eight course offerings per school year instead of the traditional six. Longer classes cover a year's content in one term, permitting more class time for completion of master concepts and projects. With the conversion to the 4x4 block schedule students receive final grades, report cards and credit for each of four classes every nine weeks. Report cards are issued eight times each school year. This 4x4 block schedule allows students to complete 80 credits in a school year versus the traditional 60 credits available in the six period day. All freshmen complete an in-depth computer operations course as well as have academic literacy infused in the standard English curriculum.
John F. Kennedy students perform well in state and national academic competition, earning increasing numbers of local, regional, and state scholarships. Approximately 85% of JFK graduates entered post-secondary institutions. Of these students, 25% entered fouryear colleges and universities. The other 75% entered community colleges or technical schools. JFK graduates have been accepted by an impressive list of schools including Cornell, Columbia, John Hopkins, Stanford, the Air Force Academy, West Point, Cal Poly, and most of the University of California and California State University campuses. In addition to multimedia classes and imbedded technology courses offered we offer a full range of AP classes, including two years of Calculus (AB and BC) and a team-taught AP United States History/English 11 AP. We offer many Ohlone classes available to students on the JFK school site, and host of ROP course offerings. As 75% of our staff has completed CLAD credentialing the needs of our English Language Learners are well met. John F. Kennedy High School meets the needs of its diverse population and continues to work to expand student opportunities.
